They horde and they wait. Anticipation, excitement, awe and wonder.
Nothing to see here. It’s simply another day in the city.
Through the barricade
The traffic had halted due to the flaming bins and onslaught of thrown bottles. Having waited long enough one driver made his move and charged through the barricade. Glass bottles smashed as they were thrown in different directions while the loud horn of the lorry cut through the shouting. This battle wasn’t over.
I can’t help but feel there was an air of irony in their choosing to relocate their homes here.
On the 14th of June 2017 a blaze at Grenfell tower took the lives of 71 people. 70 more were injured. The building burned for a total of 60 hours before a total of 250 firefighters were able to control it.
The moment Londoners step below the surface everything changes. Where once we would help another, now we can only push. Manners are replaced by aggression as empathy turns to frustration.
Cars embedded into buildings appear to be a common installation around east London. The irony of this car crashing into the opticians is not lost on me.
They gather in groups outside of offices, inhaling hard for three minutes. The collective smoke rises and the complaints begin.
Cheryl was late again.
Tony is a micromanager.
No wonder Jess is fat all she does is eat.
Ryan is a sleaze.
Then as quickly as they arrived the yard is once again empty. All that remains is the ashtray of evidence.
The incident Squad
Our protection from crime and terrorism. I assume they all ride this one motorbike in an upside-down pyramid shape.
London has a lot of beautiful markets but they’re mostly boring to shoot. A list of my favourite un-inviting markets where you’re likely to encounter some form of aggression.
Dalston, Brixton, Deptford and Peckham.
Back in my day people were more considerate of others.
A moments comfort after a long and tiring day in the city.
Look, I appreciate that the bins and tied up bags suggest he’s cleaning but this could as easily be a psychopath disposing of body parts. You can decide.
It makes you wonder how many one-legged people there are in the area for this place to still be in business.
Rest & Relaxation
Sometimes the intensity of the city can be a little much. You just need to find a nice bench, stop and rest for a while.
I wish I’d stayed around to watch him try and dismount.
Home Sweet Home
It’s disheartening how frequently you’ll discover make-shift homes on the streets of London. Some people have become completely desensitised to the problem.
Look, I don’t have a good caption for this. There are just a lot of men dressed in orange in this picture. That’s pretty cool.
Sex, Coffee & Rock'n'Roll
Coffee shops are little windows into other peoples worlds. You’ll witness flirting, laughter, sadness, concern or deep thought. This one is red as fuck.
During the excitement of summer it’s fun to escape the pressure of the city and just have some fun.
Seriously, these dudes ran across the rooftops and jumped over the gaps. They could have died! Like, I got a cool photo but what if one of them had slipped? Would I have kept shooting? I don’t even want to imagine the mess!
This is an ongoing photography project being captured around London city.
